I grew up not far from the theme park affectionately called The Happiest Place on Earth...
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
John 15:11
Truly, it is a very happy and wonder-filled destination. However, the problem lies when I exit this theme park’s gates and wave goodbye to Mickey. I cannot take the park home with me. This Happy Place is not there for me when tragedy strikes, calamity calls, and confusion reigns.
Jesus is always there for me. His promised joy is always my portion. Yet why did I used to spend so much time feeling unsatisfied – that life was mundane, and my heart feeling flat – even in the best of circumstances? The reason lies in the verses beforehand in John 15: Abiding, remaining, dwelling, and feasting in the Vine.
Dwelling in Jesus’ presence is my life anthem. Honestly, you can read it in everything I write. Time alone with Him, drinking in His presence, saturating in His Word, and experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit, is cause for joy that carries one through life’s most trying storms. I am selfish enough that I don’t want to ever lose or forfeit His joy – I lived too long the other way, and I won’t ever go back.
